Knowledge
- Loss of water by evaporation from a storage can be a significant and costly matter given current water prices.
- Loss of water by evaporation is natural, occurs 24/7, hail rain or shine.
- Annual evaporation rates across Australia range from 1.8 m to 2.5 metres depth of water off the storage.
- A storage that has a depth of 3.5 – 4 m can therefore lose approximately 50% of the stored water in 12 months.
- It doesn’t matter when you water the crop or animals, the evaporation loss continues throughout the year.
If you need half your storage volume for crop water, you need to purchase slightly more than twice the volume of crop water simply to allow for losses due to evaporation alone. Then there is seepage from the storage, channels and equipment to account for.
- What change occurs to your volume of purchased of water if you can reduce the evaporation loss by 90 – 95 %?
- Do you buy less water, or increase planting by 80 percent?
Either way, your water use efficiency is increased by QUIT EVAP and there is an immediate positive benefit to your bottom line.
